2013 Challenge Series Rules

The White River Road Runners expand our Challenge Series in 2013 to include 15 14 races, with two one event outside Independence County and two bonus points races.

All club members and Independence County runners finishing any of the races will automatically be entered in the competition. Visiting runners at these events will also be able to register to join the free challenge series.

Runners will be scored at each race against other competitors in men's and women's overall categories and men's and women's age groups of 60 and older, 50-59, 40-49, 30-39, 20-29, 10-19, 9 and younger. Points will be awarded decreasing from 11 to 2 to the top 10 finishers in each category, and every runner will receive one point for finishing. In two "Step Up" bonus points races, the point scale runs from 18 for first to 8 for finishing.

The series is designed to encourage the broadest participation and give runners of all training levels a chance. Although 15 14 races are in the series, only a runner's best six standard scores plus best "Step Up" score will count toward the final total. Series results will list everyone who scores, but a runner must complete five series races to win a final award. First tiebreaker will be lowest total time over total distance in head-to-head races, then fastest mile pace in the maximum seven scoring races, then fastest mile pace in all races.

In a change from 2012, this year's series includes runner's choice of either race at both the Penguin Run and High Rock Hop dual events. The Christmas Half-Marathon offers a relay that will NOT be counted. Runners who complete at least 10 races in the series will receive "Iron Roadrunner" recognition.

Age group for the competition will be a runner's age on June July 1. Links to race Web sites will be posted as they become available.
