Course Description: USATF certified challenging loop type 4-Mile course. Ran mostly on asphalt. One of the Arkansas Grand Prix State Championship races. USATF Certification Number: AR05001DLP.
The race starts out on
Batesville's Main Street, and the runners immediately begin with a gentle
upslope. After cresting this introductory ascent, runners are rewarded with the
race's most significant downhill section, which includes the turn from Main onto
St Louis St. The descent ends just before the 1 mile marker. It is not uncommon
for runners to be under their typical 5K pace at this point in the race due to
the downhill nature of the opening mile.
The second mile spans St Louis and Barnett streets before finishing on White Dr.
In this second mile, the runners will encounter rolling terrain starting uphill,
then coasting back down until climbing back up to the two mile marker. Overall,
competitors will face more up than down in this mile.
Mile 3 continues on White Dr before making a left turn onto Heights Street.
After an uphill first half, Mile 3 repays the runners with the second
significant downhill section of the race.
This downhill trends continues into the 4th Mile and onto Bayou Street. Racers
will need to have kept something in reserve, however, as the course then climbs
up an overpass before turning back onto Main Street for a final climatic, uphill
push which levels off just before the finish line.
