13th White River Water Carnival 4 Mile Classic

WR Classic provides record, surprise

The 13th White River Classic 4-Mile race was record-setting and surprising. The record setting was done by Brian Baker, the overall winner. baker blew away his previous record time and won an unprecedented fourth consecutive classic. The surprise came from Amber Nicholas, the first woman to cross the line. Nicholas, a graduate of Newark High School, is best known as an all-Southwest Conference guard for the University of Arkansas Lady Razorback basketball team.
Baker, a former Batesville High School star and now a student for the UofA track team, finished the race in 19:42, easily eclipsing his time of 20:06 last summer. Nicholas, who had never before ran in a road race, finished in 28:18.
